Detox

What is "Detox"?

Detox, short for detoxification, is the body's natural, ongoing process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the body. The liver, intestines, kidneys, lungs, skin, blood and lymphatic systems work together to ensure that toxins are transformed chemically to less harmful compounds and excreted from the body.

Why do we need Detox?

It is a regular, internal process of hygiene that helps keep us healthy.Interestingly, almost every faith has some form of traditional purification at some point during the year. Here are just a few ancient religions that have seasonal detoxing rituals:
§  Catholic Lent (Spring)
§  Jewish Yom Kippur (Fall)
§  Muslim Ramadan (Fall)

Each of them are based on the religion’s lore and practiced for reasons left up to the individual. But perhaps these customs have survived thousands of years because of another reason? Is it possible these ancient traditions have some form of life-preserving quality and underlying health function?

The popular Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Ed. suggests this is true. The following passage describes what it feels like when you detox and suggests fasting as a means to hasten the process:

Periodically, the body seeks to rid itself of these toxins and releases them from the tissues. The toxins then enter the bloodstream, causing the body to experience a `low’ or `down’ cycle. During such a cycle, you may suffer from headaches, diarrhea, or depression. Fasting is an effective and safe method of helping the body detoxify itself and move through this low cycle with greater speed and fewer symptoms. In fact, fasting is recommended for any illness, as it gives the body the rest it needs to recover.

Detoxing is an even more necessary practice now than it was for our ancient ancestors. Compare our world with theirs and pollutants, toxins and chemicals have become our saber-tooth tigers and pterodactyls.

But when do you need to detox?

Here are a few common symptoms of toxic overload:

  • Feeling tired, sluggish, lethargic
  • Trouble concentrating and staying focused
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Catch colds easy
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Bad breath
  • Unpleasant body odor
  • Frequent gas, bloating or indigestion
  • Allergies and/or food sensitivities
  • Skin problems like acne, psoriasis, eczema
  • Constipation and other gastrointestinal irregularities
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Recurrent respiratory problems
  • Back pain
  • Mood changes
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Sinus congestion

Experiencing several of the above symptoms may be evidence that you have a build up of toxins. But all is not lost – you have the power to make yourself feel better! You can regain your health, balance and youth through several means, including detoxing.

How to detox whole body?

Here are a few suggestions to get you started in assisting and strengthening your natural detoxification process:

  • Have detoxification diet. Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods.
  • Cleanse and protect the liver by taking herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle, and drinking green tea.
  • Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.
  • Drink at least two quarts of water daily.
  • Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.
  • Transform stress by emphasizing positive emotions.
  • Practice hydrotherapy by taking a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.
  • Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration.
  • Dry-brush your skin or try detox foot spas/foot baths to remove toxins through your pores. Special brushes are available at natural products stores.
  • And the best way to detoxify is exercise ,Yoga or jump-roping are good. One hour every day.

Are there any detox products?

Yes of course. These toxins problems had been discovered many many years before and they cannot be taken lightly. In this modern world, the sources will continuously increase and researchers will not stop collecting data in order to improve our life. Many experts have discovered ways to improve our body detoxification, from physical products to digital products. I have listed some of the products based on their popularity.
